HISTORY

The rich history of the Finger Lakes is incomplete without the trail and what it has meant to the region.

THE TRAIL HISTORY

Many articles have been written about the history of the trail and its inhabitants. Follow the links provided below to the documentaries of the Keuka Outlet Trail, Crooked Lake Canal and Railway, The first settlers, their Mills and the  "The Publick Universal Friend" as seen on TV's The History Detectives

Fran Dumas's series of articles about the millsites and mills, the canal, the railroad, and the lake waterfronts that developed along the outlet between Keuka Lake and Seneca Lake appeared in print between March 1989 and August 1990. Her illustrated guide to the Outlet Trail and Trail Maps are available from the Yates County Historian, 110 Court Street, Penn Yan, NY 14527, Long's Books and Yates County Chamber of Commerce and at the Dresden Trail Head at The Cork & Fork Pub in the Dresden Hotel, Dresden, NY 14441.
